Seychelles eco-retreat recognised for pioneering conservation work
Frégate Island Private has been named a finalist in the Conservation category of the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards 2011. One of only 12 finalists across the four award categories - out of over 180 entries in total - Frégate Island Private was selected after demonstrating that its operations have made a tangible contribution to the conservation of nature, including protection of wildlife, expanding and restoring natural habitat, and supporting biodiversity conservation.
Now in their sixth year under the World Travel & Tourism Council's stewardship, The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are aimed at recognising best practice in sustainable tourism within the travel and tourism industry worldwide. The Awards involve a rigorous four-step judging process and are adjudicated by an international team of 15-20 judges, representing a wide range of professional backgrounds and expertise in the field of travel and tourism around the world.
The original luxury eco-hideaway, Frégate Island Private is located in the Seychelles, in the midst of the Indian Ocean. Exemplary preservation, protection and nurturing of the island’s unique natural environment, and the utmost in exclusivity for guests, are the central principles at Frégate: abundant fresh produce from the island’s plantations form the basis of the culinary and spa concepts, while a resident ecologist coordinates ongoing work towards the seamless integration of resort operations into ecological program.
