First Maldives Game Fishing Challenge

The newly established Maldives Game Fishing Association (MGFA) will host the 2011 Maldives Game Fishing Challenge, in and around Male’ atoll, from 9 to 12 November this year. A new event on the International Game Fishing Association calendar, event organizers are optimistic that the tag-and-release event will attract anglers from around the world to the idyllic fishing waters of the Maldives.

The Maldives has been renowned as a premier destination for beautiful, tranquil and picture-perfect vacations and as an exceptional diving and water sports location. With stunning waters teeming with fish, including Marlin, Wahoo and Sailfish, the Maldives Game Fishing Challenge will also expose the Maldives to the world of international game fishing.

Organizers anticipate anglers to travel with their families, friends or colleagues, and enjoy the idyllic resort facilities and services prior to or beyond the event activities, expanding on the tourist visitation to Maldives in the November shoulder season.

The MGFA has several objectives, including promotion of the Maldives as an international game fishing destination and raising awareness of sustainable fishing practices locally. The event committee is comprised of an enthusiastic and qualified group of Maldivians and keen supporters of the Maldives, including two IGFA representatives. The international tournament will be listed in the IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) calendar, and will be supported and promoted by the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation at the 2011 international tourism trade fairs.

At Coco Palm Bodu Hithi, magical mornings are guaranteed with a unique style of fishing trip by Dhoni, trawling in the waters of the North Male Atoll.

During sunset you can try fishing with a hand-held line, the traditional Maldivian way at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu.
